This free virtual training program provides educational content to help everyday people feel confident and ready to welcome a foster dog into their home, even if it's their first time fostering!
This course will cover things like the need for an extended Decompression Period (what we call the 3-6-9 rule), learning how to read Dog Body Language (with visual guides and examples), tips for managing the environment (including using baby gates/fencing/crates), and so much more!
We focus on a holistic approach to dog care, utilize science-backed rewards-based training (not aversive tools), and encourage a shift towards building a deeper emotional connection between the dog and guardian.
Since our organization focuses on saving dogs who have special behavioral needs, the information sourced from professionals used in this course emphasizes best practices for caring for dogs with "big feelings".
Some of the behavioral challenges briefly covered may include animal reactivity, sound sensitivity, fear of new people, separation anxiety, dysregulated nervous systems and other similar behaviors. Safety is always the top priority, and this course is not a substitute for working with qualified professionals.
People applying to foster through Miko's Rescue Mission will go through this course as part of becoming an Approved Foster. This program is also available to any approved rescue organization who would like to incorporate it into their foster/adoption process (please inquire if you're interested or know a rescue who is)!
Note: This course is for informational purposes only and should not be used as a substitute to working directly with certified dog training and behavior professionals for your specific needs.
This program aims to provide financial support to approved adopters through Miko's Rescue Mission. We help offset some costs for the lifetime of the adopted dog while also providing long-term support with training, vet care, or other needs!
This virtual program is designed for people whose beloved pet/s have crossed the rainbow bridge and passed away. It can be hard to ever feel ready to open up your heart and home to a new dog, and we're here to support and prepare you to one day foster or adopt again!
This program aims to raise funds to purchase microchip scanners to send out to networkers, shelter volunteers, and members of the public who are on the ground/in the streets assisting homeless, lost, and stray animals.
(Coming Soon) If you would like to receive a Microchip Scanner, please fill out a request form to get approved.
