HOW TO APPLY TO ADOPT

All Adoptions are Processed as Foster-to-Adoptions

There is a 3-month (minimum) required Foster-to-Adopt period that begins the day you welcome your Foster-to-Adopt Dog into your home! If you are approved for Foster-to-Adopt, then we are confident that this will be a lasting fit, but we still allow for a 3-month period for you to change your mind without worry.

Once a Foster Dog is approved to be Foster-to-Adopted, we place an Adoption Hold on the dog so no one else can apply for them. We want you to feel confident in building a loving relationship with your Foster-to-Adopt Dog knowing that they are yours forever (unless you change your mind within that 3-month period).

This allows us to provide support to you as the dog settles into your home, offer access to our virtual dog trainer, allow you to borrow needed supplies, and for us to pay for vet care as needed. We are here to fully support you in every way possible and set you and your Foster-to-Adopt Dog up for a lifetime of success together!

1. Complete the General Application and Select the "Foster-to-Adopt" Option

Select the "Foster-to-Adopt" Option when completing the General Foster Application. There is a 3-Month (minimum) Foster Trial Period required after being approved for "Foster-to-Adopt" and receiving the Foster Dog into your care.

General Application

2. Schedule a Screening Phone Call (schedule via Calendly)

Schedule a call to discuss further details, answer any questions you may have,  and ensure the dog is a good potential fit for you and your home!

Schedule a Screening Call

3. Complete a Virtual and/or an In-Person Home Check + Meet & Greet

You can schedule the Home Check and Meet & Greet both in-person and/or virtually! For the In-Person option, you will either meet the potential Foster Dog in the comfort of your own home or at a pre-determined location. If we are at your home, we will complete a walkthrough at the same time!

For the Virtual option, we will complete a Live Video Call Walkthrough of your home and we will have you meet the potential Foster Dog on the call too!

We will also request specific photos and videos of the inside and outside of your home to be emailed to us for the Virtual Walkthrough (these are the same that need to be submitted with the General Application):

1. Front Entrance (including walkway and front yard if applicable)

2. Space/Room where Foster Dog's Crate will be

3. Entrance or Hallway leading up to Space/Room where Foster Dog will be Located

4. Any Stairways or other unique home features

5. Backyard, Patio or other Outside Space where Foster Dog will have access to and be supervised at all times

6. Living Room/Den

7. Kitchen & Dining Room

8. Any other rooms or spaces in your home where you anticipate allowing Foster Dog to go

9. Location where you plan to set up the Foster Dog's Feeding Area

10. If you have other animals, provide photos of each one, their bed/crate area, and Feeding Area

Email Photos Here

4. Sign the Foster-to-Adopt Agreement (via Adobe Sign)

Upon approval, you will receive the Foster Agreement emailed to you to complete and sign digitally. This covers the 3-Month Foster-to-Adopt period.

THIS WILL BE SENT TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS ON FILE.

You will also Consent to a Background Check when signing the Foster Agreement.

*Please Note: The Foster Dog will have their dog license registered to your address under the Rescue Founder's Name after the first 30 days of the dog being in your residence (if applicable).

5. Transport of the Foster Dog + Supplies Will be Arranged

We typically prefer to drop-off the Foster Dog and supplies directly to your home. We can help you set up the crate/dog's area, any fencing or baby gates needed, and help to ensure you, your family, and the dog are set up for success! It is also possible to arrange for us to meet at a halfway point or for you to come pick up your Foster-to-Adopt Dog!

Please Note: If you live out-of-state, we typically require you to pick up your Foster-to-Adopt Dog and drive them back to your home (no flights). Rarely, we may approve hiring a transport company to drive your Foster-to-Adopt Dog to you instead, at your expense.

We provide all food and supplies needed during the 3-Month Required Foster Period! Additional supply needs should be communicated to us via text message and we will arrange drop off or ship them to you!

AFTER THE REQUIRED 3-MONTH MINIMUM FOSTER PERIOD:

6. Complete the Adoption Application (via ShelterLuv)

If you were approved for Foster-to-Adopt, then you are automatically approved to Adopt (unless you change your mind within the required Foster Period).

After the 3-Month Foster Period, the link to the Adoption Application will be sent to you via text message after confirming with the Rescue Founder that you are ready to finalize the Adoption.

7. Sign the Adoption Contract and Pay Adoption Fee (via ShelterLuv)

Adoption Fee - The balance is due at the time of signing the Adoption Contract. Your Adoption Certificate and dog's medical records will be emailed to you within one week after completing the Adoption Contract!

Adoption Fees:

If you financially sponsored or long-term fostered your dog prior to applying for Foster-to-Adoption, your fee may be reduced or waived (not applicable for puppies). Adoption Fees are as follows:

  • Special Behavioral Needs Dog: $175
  • Medical Needs Dog: $250

Microchip: We will transfer the microchip into your name and you must create an account to access the information. You agree to keep the Rescue Founder and the Rescue 's Contact Info listed as additional points of contact indefinitely, for the lifetime of your dog, as an added safety measure.

Apple Airtag: If you do not have an iPhone, please let us know! We can figure out an alternative GPS Tracker for your dog, such as a Fi Collar, Tractive, or similar.

Name Tag: You will need to get a new name tag to put on your dog's collar with your contact information on it as soon as possible!

Dog License: We will also change the dog license that was registered to your address (under the Rescue Founder's Name) into your name.
