Forms to be Completed:
Temporary Fosters care for a Foster Dog for less than 1 week and Short-Term Fosters care for a Foster Dog between 1 Week to 1 Month (as discussed).
These types of fosters are life-savers and typically take a dog in immediately after they are saved from the shelter, or when another Foster Parent is out of town or we need an immediate temporary/short-term solution for a Foster Dog with nowhere else to go!
Thank you for stepping up to help! Please complete the Foster Interest Form to get started:
Someone from our team will contact you via Call/Text to touch base and discuss further details to ensure it's a good fit! We will then do a Video Call or request photos to complete a Virtual Home Check.
The Temporary/Short-Term Foster Agreement will be sent to your email via Adobe Sign.
Typically for Temporary or Short-Term Fostering we will have someone from our team drop off/pick up the dog from your home, or make arrangements for a transport service to help us out.
Long-Term Fosters care for a Foster Dog between 1 Month to 6 Months or longer, or however long it takes for their Foster Dog to get placed into their Foster-to-Adopt home!
A Foster Dog may be coming from a Boarding or Home Boarding Facility, a Short-Term Foster Home, or from the Rescue Founder's own home.
A Long-Term Foster Home is where a Foster Dog truly begins the decompression process, gets to settle into a routine, and gains experience and comfort living in a home environment.
Our Long-Term Foster Parents also expected to help with training their Foster Dog through utilizing our Co-Parenting Prep Course and working with approved and qualified virtual/in-person certified dog trainers as needed.
Keep in mind that your Foster Dog needs the following (not a complete list):
We will provide a complete list of your specific Foster Dog's preferences for exercise, sleep routine, meals, toys, playtime, behavioral needs, things to avoid, etc. along with a Feeding Schedule and instructions for how to prepare their food and any supplements, medications, hygiene routines, etc. that are needed.
*Please Note: The Foster Dog will have their dog license registered to your address under the Rescue Founder's Name after the first 30 days of the dog being in your residence.
Thank you for welcoming a Pitty into your home long-term! Please complete the Foster Interest Form to get started:
(Optional) Complete an In-Person Home Check at the same time as the Meet and Greet by scheduling the Meet and Greet in the comfort of your home!
Please Note: If you completed a Virtual Home Check instead of an In-Person Home Check, we will require that someone drop off the dog and supplies to your home. We want to help you set up the crate/dog's area, any fencing or baby gates needed, as well as ensure you, your family, and the dog are set up for success!
If you completed an In-Person Home Check, we can still make arrangements for someone to help you set up too!
Foster-to-Adopt Applicants are the end goal that leads to a Foster Dog being placed into their furever home with you!
A Foster Dog may be coming from a Long-Term Foster Home, a Boarding or Home Boarding Facility, a Short-Term Foster Home, or from the Rescue Founder's own home.
Your Foster-to-Adopt Dog will still need time to adjust to their new living environment in your home, and it is important to take things slow and understand that you will need to allow for decompression while they get to settled into their new routine and life in your home.
It is exciting to bring a new dog home, and often the first thing people want to do is take the dog everywhere or invite friends and family over or smother the dog with attention and being around them constantly.
Also keep in mind that your Dog needs the following (not a complete list):
We will provide a complete list of your specific Dog's preferences for exercise, sleep routine, meals, toys, playtime, behavioral needs, things to avoid, etc. along with a Feeding Schedule and instructions for how to prepare their food and any supplements, medications, hygiene routines, etc. that are needed.
As Foster-to-Adopt Parents, please be prepared to build a relationship with your new dog, which includes you learning new skillsets or training methods in order to help your dog thrive! We encourage you to utilize our complimentary Co-Parenting Prep Course, and can help you search for a qualified certified dog trainer for virtual and/or in-person sessions as needed. If you choose to use a trainer outside of the Co-Parenting Prep Course, then that is at your own expense.
*Please Note: The Foster Dog will have their dog license registered to your address under the Rescue Founder's Name after the first 30 days of the dog being in your residence. Once the Adoption is finalized at 3 months, then the license will be transferred into your name.
(Optional) Complete an In-Person Home Check at the same time as the Meet and Greet by scheduling the Meet and Greet in the comfort of your home!
This will be sent via Adobe Sign and you will receive an email to complete this.
We put in a request and it is sent to your email address for you to securely complete the form. We NEVER have access to your sensitive information, it all goes through Checkr.com
The Adoption Application will be sent to you via Shelterluv.com. Adoption Fees range from $125 to $250 depending on the dog. You can pay the full amount up front, or arrange for a 3-month payment plan (which coincides with the 3-month foster period).
This includes Signing the Adoption Contract via Shelterluv.com, Completing the Adoption Fee Payment (if not paid in full previously), Transferring the Microchip into your name, Transferring the Dog License into your name, and Receiving your Adoption Certificate in the mail (within 1 month of signing the Adoption Contract).
Upon finalization of the adoption and effective on the date the Adoption Contract is signed, you assume all legal and financial responsibility for your Dog going forward, and any supplies or financial assistance Miko's Rescue Mission Inc. has provided will end.
(Please Note: If you were accepted into our beta "It Takes A Village" Co-Parenting Program as an adopter, your support will continue as previously agreed upon for the lifetime of your Dog).
